Bio

Sue Ferreira is the founder of the community of Boomer Bucks, an online community committed to providing solution for Boomers, who have life and/or financial concerns, heading into their later years.

The Boomer Bucks program creates a holistic approach to solving problems, recognizing that “Financial Advice” or “Life Advice” alone will not suffice for Boomers to move forward and attain the goals of their Golden Years.

Sue was born in England in 1947, making her a “Leading Edge Boomer” and has been ever conscious of and fascinated by the social consequences of being part of this bulging demographic.

Early in her life, she took the decision to make her career in medicine, but by concentrating her studies on the basic sciences, she knew she would have to let go of her primary love of history and the social sciences. Sue’s love of history and its relationship with the social sciences has continued throughout her life and is a prime factor in her desire to bring the community of Boomer Bucks to the Boomer generation, for “without knowing where you have been, you have will not know where to go”.

In 1965, Sue entered the University College Hospital Medical School of the University of London, England, graduating in 1968, with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and in 1971, with a Medical Degree. Sue chose to specialize in anesthesiology, and 2011 is her 40th year as a practicing physician.

In 1976, Sue and her husband emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to satisfy their love of the outdoors and the wilderness. Sue became a Staff Anesthesiologist at the University of Alberta Health Sciences Centre, where she remained for 26 years. During these years her life was consumed with work and raising three great kids.

Sadly in 2004, Sue’s marriage ended; she decided that it was time for a new start and moved to Victoria, British Columbia to continue practicing medicine and continue her love of the outdoors.

It was at this time that Boomer Bucks began to take shape. Rapidly, approaching her senior years and for the first time, having to take control of everything in her life, Sue realized the enormity of this task, which is faced by so many, whether it be by divorce or loss of a loved one. The financial crash in 2008 further emphasized to her, the crushing body blows that must have been taken by many seniors and Boomers, alone or as couples, who are running out of time to recover from this hit.

Having always been in a caring profession and wishing to make a difference to the future of those struggling in their later years, Sue has spent the last couple of years researching, attending conferences and being mentored by some very knowledgeable masters before founding Boomer Bucks, to support and help improve the futures of Seniors and Boomers.

In her (limited) spare time, Sue likes to keep up with her three wonderful offspring, who live in different cities in Canada and the USA, and to hike, kayak, sail and indulge in photographing the beauty of the West Coast and anywhere else she may travel to.

How much money will you need to retire is a question being asked increasingly by many Baby Boomers.
