BioUnlike many traditional lawyers, attorney Patrick Phancao began his career abroad. Having been raised in Europe, Asia and Africa, traveling has always been a part of his life. After law school, when the opportunity arose to act as the Assistant Legal Counsel to a French Bank based abroad, he took on the opportunity. He worked as the Bank’s Assistant Corporate Counsel for a year, where he learned a great deal about the Financial Industry.
When he came back to CA, he was offered a position as Legal Counsel to a Supplemental Nutrients Co. in Los Angeles. There, he became acquainted with the previous owner who had a wide range of legal needs. In his year and a half at the company, Mr. Phancao received a great deal of legal exposure in the following fields – Patents and Trademarks, Corporate Governance, and Asset Protection to name a few. A few months back and in full practice, Patrick set the highest Bond in CA History in the White Collar Crime Division in the Superior Court of Los Angeles. He also participated in the biggest individual tax case of 2003. This intense experience parlayed into representing affluent members of the community, both in California and Florida, in all aspects of Asset Protection and Estate Planning.
As Mr. Phancao gained in experience, he realized the need for the underserved baby boomers who needed Medicaid / Medi-Cal representation. Either due to lack of knowledge or misconception, he witnessed too many elders not take the proper steps to safeguard their life savings. He set out to change the landscape of this tragedy once and for all, one client at a time.
Mr. Phancao practices law in CA and FL, then partnered up with Ms. Shaffer to further strengthen his passion in this arena. The two of them started a law firm in Irvine, CA specializing in estate planning, asset protection, business succession, and Medicaid / Medi-Cal planning.

Irrespective of where the client stands in the financial spectrum, I am passionate about protecting their loved ones and themselves from lawsuits, and being able to access Medi-Cal benefits despite having a large estate
In this competitive world, what sets your business apart?
Everything we do at our firm is on a flat-fee basis, so there is no commitment on either end until both parties know clearly what to expect. Furthermore, the last thing I want to create for my client is a transactional experience with us. Through the years, I have realized that the strength of a legal structure is actually found in the relationship the client and the attorney forged together. Thus, our goal is to remain our client's lifetime attorney, for themselves and their families.
Who is your ideal customer?
People with assets from the $100,000 to $1,000,000 who seek to qualify for Medi-Cal either form themselves or their spouses. We help them re-allocate their assets in a legal manner and ensure their estate is kept for the intended beneficiaries - their loved ones.
